Several readers have pointed out that McAfee Internet Security 2010 is available for sale right now on Amazon.com and elsewhere. "What's wrong with you?!" they ask. "Why haven't you reviewed it? Are you some kind of lazy slacker?" (And those were the polite ones).
The truth is that McAfee really doesn't operate on a yearly update model; their updates exist as a continuum of incremental changes. Since the consumer wants to see a "new model" they update the year in the product name around the same time the other vendors do. However, the full collection of significant new features that really define this version won't be ready for several months.
So, are they faking out consumers, giving them the false impression of a new version? Not really. The user who buys McAfee 2010 now will get all the new features as soon as McAfee pushes them out. But I can't write a new review at every moment along the McAfee continuum. I really have to wait until all the 2010 features are in place. And that's why I haven't reviewed McAfee's 2010 suite. - Neil J. Rubenking.
